1970s Givenchy Red and Black Floral Midi Skirt and Shawl MRS Couture

Breezy cotton floral motif midi skirt and shawl by Hubert de Givenchy. The shawl is square with a bright, bold red hem, short fringe, and features the Givenchy logo as well as the “Nouvelle Boutique” sign. The A – line pleated midi skirt features a thin black hem, pockets with black trim accents, and a red belt.

Givenchy is known best for his elegant and innovative haute couture. He began his career working under Elsa Schiaparelli, Jacques Fath, Robert Piguet, and Lucien Lelong. As a young man, he worked alongside Pierre Balmain and Christian Dior who were also making their mark on Parisian fashion.

Givenchy designed Audrey Hepburn’s iconic “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” dress, popularizing the modern “little black dress”. He also designed much of Hepburn’s personal wardrobe. Givenchy was always reinventing himself and with that, revolutionizing the state of fashion. He is credited for creating the “baby doll” dress and “balloon coat,” two designs emblematic of the 1960s.
